MARTIN BROUGHTON
Tuesday 7 October
10:10-10:50
Martin Broughton,
President, CBI and Chairman, British Airways
Who better to address the theme of this year’s
Convention—Adapting and Innovating—than the
President of the Confederation of British Industry
and the Chairman of British Airways. Part of a wider
series of sessions connected to the theme, Martin’s
presentation will set the scene and context for the
Convention as a whole.
What does the future hold for UK Plc? Will the
economy and British industry perform well in the
downturn? What should companies do when
adversity and bad publicity hits home? British
Airways, BAA and the airline industry generally have
not enjoyed favourable publicity recently. In his
unique joint role, and former chairman of British
American Tobacco, Martin will give us a unique
insight into innovation, reputation, risk and
investment and how he sees the future of British
business—while sharing the pressures facing the
national carrier.
